Welcome to Saltgrass Retrievers, your newest, best source for hunt test and gun dog training in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. Our facilities are conveniently located about 70 miles East of Houston and 37 miles southwest of Beaumont, Texas. Saltgrass Retrievers is situated on approximately 20 acres including two ponds that are designed and maintained specifically for retriever training. With our additional access to over 12,000 acres of additional area training grounds, your dog will experience a wide variety of terrain and hunt conditions.
We intentionally work with a limited number of dogs which allows for more one-on-one attention for your dog and training techniques specifically selected for your dog’s needs and abilities. Several different training programs are available, giving your pup the best chance to maximize his potential and attain the goals you have set for him.
Let Saltgrass Retrievers give you the satisfaction of owning an awesome hunting companion, field competitor, or just a well behaved member of the family.
The Owner
Brad Beaulieu has had a passion for dogs his entire life. He trained his first hunting dog at age 15, which opened his eyes to the joys and benefits of having a canine hunting partner. He understood what an asset a well trained hunting dog could be, both in terms of bird conservation and just in the sheer enjoyment having a talented dog working with you in the field.
In 2000 with the help of professional trainer Steve Biggers at Rocky Creek Retrievers, Brad broadened his training to include the AKC hunt test program and began to develop a serious interest in the world of professional dog training. Steve’s shared knowledge and skills paid off when Brad led his chocolate lab, “Drake”, to a Senior Hunter Title. From that point on, Brad was hooked on the art and the challenge of training dogs.
In 2004 Brad spotted another puppy he thought had potential and purchased Rocky Creek’s Heavy Hitter, or “Pudge”, as we know him. Brad then personally trained and handled “Pudge” to his first AKC Master Hunter title and succeeded in qualifying at the 2009 Master National. Now Brad and Saltgrass Retrievers are ready to help you train your dog and show you the difference a well-taught dog can make!
